How does MonaLisa Touch work?

A probe is placed inside the vagina and from this probe fractionated beams of light penetrate small areas of tissue. This creates small wounds in the epithelial layer of the vaginal mucosa triggering fibroblast activity which in turn stimulates new collagen production.

When women become menopausal the vaginal mucosa becomes atrophied with the decreased levels of estrogen. This means there are fewer number of blood vessels, the mucosa (or lining of the vagina) is significantly thinner and more prone to trauma, and the pH changes which effects the normal healthy flora. This is why there is pain and irritation. The MonaLisa Touch revitalizes the cells in the vaginal tissue to correct these menopausal symptoms. Patients receive three 5 minute in-office treatments that are spaced six weeks apart.

Most MonaLisa Touch patients feel improvement after the very first treatment, although the procedure calls for three 5 minute treatments that are generally spaced over an 18-week period.

After the third treatment, patients should expect to come back annually for a maintenance treatment.

Patients can return to normal activities after the procedure, but should refrain from sexual activity for 2-3 days. Your doctor will determine a post-procedure regimen that is right for you.
