Alisha Smith, CNM
Alisha Smith, CNM, is a New Mexico native, she was born and raised here in Albuquerque. She has always had a strong commitment to give back to her community and to grow personally and professionally. This started with obtaining her nursing degree from the University of New Mexico Nursing program in 2012. Following graduation, she worked as a Labor and Delivery nurse and really enjoyed helping clients embrace the transition to motherhood. Her own life experiences as a nurse and as a mother led her to pursue a master’s degree from the University of New Mexico and in 2021 she became a Certified Nurse-Midwife. During her training she worked in Las Cruces and Gallup and grew to appreciate what women have to do when navigating the difficult world that is healthcare. Alisha believes that providers must be respectful and inclusive of everyone’s diverse cultural values and personal human experiences. She recognizes some women may not have a voice in their own healthcare and she strives to foster trusting relationships and to create safe spaces for clients to feel like they are heard and that their needs matter and will be met. Alisha has lots of volunteer and political advocacy experience and she knows how to be a champion for individual clients and the broader community. She is excited to join this practice and to share her experiences and knowledge with the clients and their families in years to come.
