Denise Lopez, CNM

For Denise, being in the room at a home birth attended by midwives when she was a teenager was magical and fascinating. She did not know then that this experience was the seed that would sprout many, many years later after the birth of her son. She began her journey to midwifery as a student midwifery at the Northern New Mexico Birth Center in Taos, NM. As a student midwife her love for supporting physiologic labor while creating a safe and empowering environment grew. This experience led her to pursue a nursing degree at the University of New Mexico, Taos campus and after a brief time as an ER RN, began the Nurse Midwifery program at the University of New Mexico, in Albuquerque. She follows the Midwifery Model of Care and strives to provide evidence based, compassionate, all-inclusive and culturally sensitive care. Denise is still in awe of the magic of childbirth and strives to be an advocate in women’s health care.

Denise enjoys traveling and spending time with her teenage son. She loves skiing, hiking, cooking, live music and naps.
